Rowdy Roundup Week of June 16

What I Posted This Week

Just looking at this list reinforces the fact that I need to slim down my platforms. Ha!

Life Lately

This week, we paused to remember Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is not just a historical footnote—it’s a call to remember the cost of injustice, the endurance of hope, and the ongoing fight for freedom that is full and real. As people of faith, we honor the resilience, beauty, and sacred worth of Black lives, not just in words, but in our actions, our choices, and our commitment to justice.

It’s the final week of my spring quarter at work (I teach online for a university), and it’s the normal mad dash to the finish line. While the majority of my communication students are doing a fantastic job, I’m always chasing about 25% to try and help them over the finish line. It’s an exhausting but rewarding point in the quarter.

What I’m Reading

This week I finished a fantastic book, Cross-Examined: Read the Bible in Times of Division by Josh Scott. At only 96 pages, this is a wonderfully concise and thoughtful analysis that invites the reader to rethink dominant interpretations of current issues like gender equality, racism, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, Christian Nationalism, and weaponizing the Bible. Thanks for the recommendation, Adam!

I’m also working my way through the Hebrew Bible. I’m in the prophets right now and LOVING IT. I’ll be reading Obadiah for the next few minutes. IYKYK, it’s only 21 verses long.

Things I’m Loving

Coffee. Nespresso in particular. I’m never going back to the Keurig.

What’s Ahead

I have a content calendar, and I have plans for posting next week, but at this moment I could not tell you what’s coming. lol
