I took an unexpected week and a half off from posting here. At first, I felt guilty. Kind of like I’d left something undone or I wasn’t following through on what God’s been bugging me to do. But even Jesus stepped away.
The Gospels tell us that “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). Mark says he got up early, before anyone else was awake, and found a quiet place to be alone with God (Mark 1:35). Sometimes he went up a mountain. Sometimes he crossed a lake. Sometimes he just disappeared from the crowd.
Even the Son of God needed space, rest, and silence. Room to breathe.
And if Jesus needed it, why would I think I don’t?
The world keeps telling us that if we stop, we’ll fall behind. But in the kingdom of God, rest isn’t weakness. It’s obedience. It’s trust. And it’s a gift (a whole post on Sabbath forthcoming).
So maybe you need to hear this too:
- It’s okay to step back.
- It’s okay to take a breath.
- It’s okay to not produce, not post, not show up for every single thing.
Even Jesus rested, and when he came back, he came back full of clarity and compassion.
