I’m so excited to introduce you to my new podcast, Gospel at a Glance. This project has been stirring in my heart for a while, and it’s finally live!
The idea is simple: take the gospels and walk through them passage by passage starting with Matthew. The podcast offers listeners a thoughtful, Scripture-rich look that stays accessible. The episodes are short and focused, 10 minutes or less, and perfect if you want to deepen your understanding of Jesus’ story but don’t always have time for a full lecture or sermon.
Each episode is grounded in Scripture itself (I read the passage aloud so you can hear it in context) and then draw on trusted sources to bring out meaning, history, and connections across the Bible. I use:
- The Bible itself in multiple translations: ESV, NIV, and NRSV.
- Study resources: The Jewish Annotated New Testament, HarperCollins Study Bible, and Oxford Annotated Study Bible.
- Widely read commentaries: voices from both church history and modern scholarship, including Augustine, John Calvin, R.T. France, N.T. Wright, Dale Bruner, and Craig Keener. These help connect us to the way Matthew’s Gospel has been read across the centuries as needed.
Together, these voices help frame both the first-century context and the timeless meaning of the text for us today.
Episodes So Far
Here’s a roundup of what’s live so far (Episodes 0–5):
Episode 0: Welcome to Gospel at a Glance
A short introduction to the podcast and the approach we’ll be taking.
Episode 1: Matthew 1:1–17
We start with Jesus’ genealogy: why these names matter, how Matthew is rooting Jesus in Israel’s story, and what it reveals about God’s faithfulness.
Episode 2: Matthew 1:18–25
The birth of Jesus through the eyes of Joseph. We look at Emmanuel, “God with us,” and what Matthew wants us to hear in this story.
Episode 3: Matthew 2:1–6
The Magi arrive, searching for a king. We talk about prophecy, power, and the unsettling way the story begins to contrast Herod’s reign with Jesus’.
Episode 4: Matthew 2:7–12
The Magi follow the star, encounter Herod, and then finally find the child with Mary. What does it mean that joy is found in an unexpected place?
Episode 5: Matthew 2:16–18
Herod’s rage explodes in violence. We explore the echoes of Pharaoh in Exodus, the suffering of Rachel, and the way God’s purposes endure even through human evil.

Why This Podcast Matters
My hope is that this podcast offers you:
- Clarity: a passage-by-passage journey through the gospels without rushing past the details.
- Context: insights from history, Jewish tradition, and biblical scholarship.
- Connection: seeing how the gospel writers frame Jesus as the fulfillment of Israel’s story.
And most of all, that it deepens your love for Jesus, who enters into the mess of human history to bring God’s kingdom near.
