Be Quiet

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” –Psalm 91:1

I have withdrawn. That is, I’ve taken a breather. A much-needed break from…noise. I hang out with my husband every day, pick up my kiddo from school and we read and do homework and enjoy each other, I teach every day in some capacity, and I get every minute with my newly-retired mom that I can. I text with my best friend Heather, and we’re both neck-deep in a similiar Biblical study. We volley reading and viewing and listening recommendations to each other and crochet and solve the world’s problems together.

When Lent was approaching, I felt a distinctive and sharp tug to unplug. At least part of the decision to stop blogging about books was to counteract my long-standing and deeeeep-seeded need to be recognized and have approval. I love a pat on the head and a gold star.

But God is telling me something different. Be in the quiet. Be in prayer. Study.

For Lent, I gave up yelling. Enough said. I am tired of the noise too.

Being quiet — embracing quietude — it is so hard. Hope your soul is filled by the experience. Hope God shares a revelation, however small. xo
